Save-N-Sync 4.1 is now Available! This new version has been extended to incorporate Linux and Mac OS x Operating Systems.

You can use Save-N-Sync to ensure that your data is safe from hardware failures, as well as accidental deletions. Unlike most personal backup solutions that are currently available for Windows only, Save-N-Sync 4.1 has been designed from the start to work on any Java 6-compliant operating system. Save-N-Sync is also unique in the fact that it offers its users the speed and convenience of local backups and restores and soon will offer the flexibility of online backup (Now In Beta).

PLEASE NOTE: The 'Run at Shutdown' option from Save-N-Sync Corporate v3.0 is not currently available in Save-N-Sync v4. We hope to reintroduce the feature in a future version of Save-N-Sync v4.

Configuration

When properly configured with the appropriate source and target paths, Save-N-Sync ensures that the folders and files within the source directories are successfully synchronized to their corresponding target paths. Save-N-Sync also ensures that any out of date files within the given target paths are updated with the latest from the source paths. This process can be initiated manually, on a fixed schedule or interval, or even in real-time when changes occur. Using specially placed shortcuts, Save-N-Sync can also be set to run upon system start. When this is used in conjunction with some form of scheduled or real-time mode, Save-N-Sync makes sure that any changes to the selected files and folders are continuously backed up while the system is running without requiring any user intervention.

Installation

Since Save-N-Sync is designed to run on several different operating systems, platform independent installers are required. Installer is currently available for Windows Os, Linux and Mac OSx.

For Windows OS

For Windows, Save-N-Sync is shipped as a single installer with a *.exe extension. In order to install Save-N-Sync, download the installer, then run it. During the installation process, the installer may prompt to download the Java Runtime Environment (or JRE). This is normal and once acknowledged, the installer will take care of the process.

Platform Notes: Save-N-Sync is NOT supported in versions of Windows prior to Windows 2000 Service Pack 4. Also, Save-N-Sync cannot be installed on server versions of Windows.

For Mac OSx

For Mac, Save-N-Sync is shipped in a '.dmg' file. This file can be mounted within the operating system and the Save-N-Sync installer can then be ran from there.

Platform Notes: Unlike in Windows and Linux, Mac OS X ships with a built-in Java Runtime Environment (or JRE). However, not all Mac OS X installations have the required JRE version 6 (primarily with older, non-Intel based Macs). In most cases, the installer will prompt you to update the JRE. Please contact support@savensync.com if the Mac Save-N-Sync installer does not work properly in your environment.

For Linux

For Linux, Save-N-Sync is shipped as one of two '.sh' files. One is designed to run on 32-bit Linux platforms while the other is designed for 64-bit Linux platforms. Once the appropriate '.sh' file is downloaded, open a terminal window, type 'chmod +x', then drag the downloaded file into the terminal window and press the 'Enter' button on your keyboard. Once this is done, click and drag the '.sh' file back into the terminal window and press the 'Enter' button again. This will start the install process.

Platform Notes: On 64-bit platforms, the most recent Java 6 Runtime Environment must be installed BEFORE running the installer, otherwise the installer will fail. The 32-bit installer will download the Java Runtime Environment while it is installing if necessary. It is HIGHLY recommended that you DO NOT run the installer with 'su' (super user) or 'root' credentials. This may affect the placement of application shortcuts and your ability to run the application .

Online Storage (In Beta): This release of Save-N-Sync v4.1 introduces the Beta version of our Online Storage solution. The ability to backup your data not only to your specified network drive or media device, but also to an online storage location. This additional backup option will give you the peace of mind in the event of a drive failure or virus attack on your machine, and will allow you to securely access your data from any Internet browser.

Guidelines for testing the Save-N-Sync Online Storage Service

For the purpose of beta testing Save-N-Sync and the Save-N-Sync Online Storage Service powered by ElephantDrive, a sample account must be created in order to gain access to the storage service. The process for creating this account is as follows:

1. Open a web browser and navigate to http://www.elephantdrive.com.
2. Scroll to the bottom of this page and select 'Signup now for 1GB Free Online Storage!'.
3 Under 'Open Edition' press 'START NOW'.
4. Fill out the user information form. Be sure to remember the email address and password
you have entered here. These will be necessary for configuring Save-N-Sync to
communicate with the storage service. When complete, press 'continue'.
5. Once the signup process is complete, a confirmation page will say 'Your account is
active now.' At this time, there is no need to download the ElephantDesktop
application.
6. Add a new job to a Save-N-Sync project, select 'Online Storage Service' for 'Target
Connection Type', and press 'OK'.
7. Enter your account email address and password, press 'OK', and you're ready to begin
uploading your files!

To securely view your files from a web browser:

1. Navigate to http://www.elephantdrive.com, click 'Login here'.
2. Enter your email address and password, then press 'submit'.
3. Once you are logged in, click on 'Explorer' under 'My Files'.
4. Select 'Yes' or 'Run' to any ElephantDrive-related security questions.
5. Your uploaded content will be under 'My Storage' > 'My Computers' and your computer name.

Please Note: The process of creating an account and viewing your files will eventually be available directly through the Save-N-Sync Online Portal (http://www.savensync.com). Once this beta period ends, all free 1GB accounts will no longer work with Save-N-Sync and a purchase of the Online Storage Package will be required.
